The latest macOS version 10.15 Catalina has been released. If you are installing DPS you might get a message stating the DPS is a malicious software and it needs to be updated. It is not malicious and as of now works in Catalina. You will have to go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy>General>and click “Open Anyway”. Allow all permissions and proceed with install. We are aware of the issue causing this flag from Apple and will address in the next update.
When you see this message after installation, press “Try Again”. In many cases, the audio driver will connect and DPS will launch correctly. If you get the message again, please reboot your computer. This is normal when installing audio drivers.
NOTE: We are currently tracking an issue in MacOS 10.13 High Sierra and MacOS 10.14 Mojave where the new security features are causing issues with audio drivers on some computers.
If after rebooting you continue to see this error, the following solution has worked for some users:
1.) Navigate to your Applications -> Bongiovi DPS folder and use the Uninstaller to uninstall DPS from your system.
2.) Restart your computer.
3.) Navigate to System Preferences -> Security and Privacy Tab
4.) Near the bottom of the window you should see a section that says that the Bongiovi DPS application was blocked from installing. Click “Allow” to allow Bongiovi DPS to install its virtual driver.
5.) Navigate to your downloads folder or visit BongioviDPS.com to re-download and reinstall Bongiovi DPS.
DPS version 2.2.0.9 is compatible with MacOS 10.14 Mohave, previous versions of DPS are not compatible. It should be noted however, that in this newest release of MacOS (as in MacOS 10.13), Apple has tightened some security settings that relate to Kernel Extensions like the Bongiovi DPSReflector Virtual Audio Driver.
When you install DPS you will be prompted to visit the System Preferences -> Security & Privacy panel and click “Allow” to let the Bongiovi DPS application to run.
If you upgrade to Mohave from a version of MacOS earlier than 10.13 High Sierra with Bongiovi DPS already installed, it may be necessary for you to visit the System Preferences -> Security & Privacy panel to “Allow” DPS to run.
Also, for DPS to work properly in MacOS 10.14 Mohave it is necessary to give DPS permission to access the microphone. This is due to heightened security and privacy settings in MacOS 10.14, not because DPS uses the microphone (which it does not.)
Be sure to click “Ok” when prompted to allow access to the microphone.
Due to elevated security features in MacOS 10.14 Mojave, it is necessary for users to give DPS permission to access the microphone. DPS does not actually use the microphone, but the DPSReflector virtual audio driver acts as a system level input which triggers this new security measure. Denying this permission will cause DPS to fail to produce audio output, i.e. there will be no sound.
So be sure to click “Ok” when prompted to allow access to the microphone.

Distortion may be caused by several factors. However, these items should resolve most distortion problems:
- Turn off Volume Boost in the SETTINGS tab.
- If you are using one of the custom MacBook profiles, try switching to one of the Built-In City profiles. Older MacBooks had more headroom than the newer models so those profiles may boost too much for your model. All of the City profiles are compatible will all models and include a limiter to reduce distortion.
- Check the settings in your music player. Usually just lowering the volume in the player will solve distortion issues.
The Transparent themes are designed to be starting points for your own theme. The Transparent Blue theme has completely transparent images. This may cause it to look strange when switching to it. After restarting DPS, it will expose all of the button controls like this:
- Compatible with OSX 10.13 or later
- 64bit Intel Mac
- 1GHz processor or better
- 2Gb RAM
- 20Mb hard drive space for installation
- Internet connection for software activation and updates
- Currently Bongiovi DPS only supports stereo audio devices. Devices with more than 2 output channels are not supported.
If in the unlikely case that our app on Mac is behaving in an unexpected way, our Support Staff may ask you to send us a Console Log. This log can tell us more about what is going on behind the scenes and help us find a solution for the issue.
Using the Console on macOS Sierra and later
- Open the Console application (from the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder).
- Click the leftmost button in the toolbar to show the sidebar, if it’s hidden.
- Select All Messages in the tab bar.
- If the Activities button in the toolbar is enabled with a blue icon, click it to turn this off.
- Switch back to our Bongiovi DPS app, and try to trigger the issue. With any luck, this will print some output to the Console.
- Return to the Console, and select the recent error messages from the main window, or from the Menu Bar choose Edit ▸ Select All.
- From the Menu Bar, choose Edit ▸ Copy. Then, open the TextEdit application and Paste the copied logs into a new plain text document.
- Save the text document in .txt format, and attach this to your response so we can investigate further!
If you launch Facetime with DPS enabled, you may see a notification from our application that Facetime may interfere with DPS audio.
We have experienced a lowered volume phenomenon if using DPS Reflector as the output option with Facetime. We recommend choosing internal speakers if this issue occurs.
If you are experiencing another issue with your audio experience please submit a support ticket here.
We have issued a fix for users experiencing the “No Sound” issue when upgrading to DPS version 2.2.4.2 on MacOS Big Sur, and on later versions of MacOS Catalina and Mojave. Here’s what to do:
1.) Verify that DPS is listed in your System Preferences -> Security and Privacy (General tab) -> Microphone permissions list.
2.) Use the application below to reset your DPS Kernel Extension
Note: You will need to “Allow” running this utility in your System Preferences -> Security and Privacy settings
If you didn’t see DPS in your microphone permissions list, please uninstall DPS, restart your computer and reinstall DPS from fresh installation media.
DPS for Mac version 2.2.5.1 resolves the no audio issue for MacOS Big Sur and later versions of MacOS Catalina and Mojave.
Bongiovi DPS is not compatible with Apple computers running the ARM based M1 chip. Bongiovi DPS is designed to run on Intel based Apple computers running MacOS. The new Apple M1 chip is ARM based and these computers run a form of iOS. Our engineering team is researching the feasibility of bringing Bongiovi DPS to these computers, but given the engineering challenges involved in bringing Bongiovi DPS to iOS devices, it logically follows that bringing DPS to Apple computers with the M1 chip will not be happening in the near term.
