    @ruslang
    I don’t think that’s a bug. The changes for the windows version are so minor (removed anonymous analytics; updated “Driver Not Found” error message) that they probably didn’t need to touch most files (maybe only the installer changed?) and so their versions remained the same.

    When the crash occurred DPS was on but not processing any sound. The actual soundcard was processing the sound using WASAPI and I’m not sure if the player crashed or the graphics card which also has an audio device (which wasn’t in use though).
    Maybe the problem only occurs when crashing while WASAPI is in use.
    (When DPS is off and the actual soundcard was used with WASAPI before then starting DPS afterwards gives a ‘driver not found’ message but no crash.)

    A suggestion:
    When a windows pc crashes for whatever reason (unrelated to DPS) then DPS will always crash afterwards every time it’s started because of a corrupted ‘user.config’. Deleting it will make it work again. However maybe it’s possible to handle this more gracefully by verifying and, if necessary, fixing or resetting that file.

    So are you saying that when auto-adjust is checked, the DPS driver volume is not being set on launch even when quitting/launching in a speaker listening mode?

    In that case the actual soundcard is automatically set to 100% and DPS to its latest value. So probably all as intended.

    I just tried 2.2.0.16:
    Switching “Auto-adjust volume” does have no effect at all as it always had. Before it was always resetting the volume, even when using headphones. Now the volume is always left untouched and what I wrote here no longer holds true. But that’s still an improvement. 🙂

    As far as I understand DPS only saves the volume when it’s exited while the currently active soundcard is not DPS. In this case the DPS volume is set to the highest value of either the current DPS volume or the currently active soundcard volume but at most 75%.

    So you could e.g. do this:

    1. Set DPS volume to 50% or lower. Quit the DPS software completely. (Do not just press the B button, actually exit DPS!)
    2. Set the volume of your actual soundcard to 50%. Dot not switch to any other volume control. Your actual soundcard needs to stay the currently active one!
    3. Reboot. Both DPS and your actual soundcard should now be set to 50% volume.

    At least that’s how it works for me.

    Thanks ruslang, yes, WASAPI shared mode works fine with DPS, exclusive mode makes it hang.

    However I’m using WASAPI exclusive with other software without DPS and making DPS work again automatically after that is the problem.

    I know I’m a bit early but some questions about DPS 2.2:

    1. Does it support VSUB 2.0?
    2. Does it have internal enhancements like support for more sample rates, more output bit depths, WASAPI output, etc.?
    3. When I used WASAPI without DPS then afterwards, even though the device was already released, DPS cannot proccess audio until I switch to another sound device and back. Is there now an easier method?
    4. I guess the virtual DPS driver will identify itself as a multichannel device now. What happens when V3D or even DPS is turned off? I’m mainly concerned about the volume differences that could occur between V3D, maybe ITU downmixing, windows OS downmixing or whatever happens in this case.

    Only unofficial (beta) drivers are released weekly or even more often.

    Official drivers are only updated a few times per year on the realtek website. They provide basic support for your soundcard and should work just fine.

    Your motherboard manufacturer is probably releasing audio drivers a bit more often and they usually add some additional stuff like more sound effects. It’s your decision if you want or need them.
    Note however that using other sound effects along with DPS may result in a degradation or distortion of sound. So you should make sure to use only one at any given time.

    Btw microsoft is also releasing realtek drivers from time to time.

    Still most driver updates just support new soundcards or fix small bugs for specific models and so may have no advantage over older ones for you. If one works fine staying with it will probably not cause any problems.

    rupert,

    as a workaround you can use the DPS bass and treble controls to fine-tune the sound and lower the the volume of your media player (*not* DPS/windows/soundcard volume) to make the Bongiovi AGC work less. This should get rid of the muddiness but you’ll also lose some of the DPS leveling effect.

    I guess the muddiness of the mids and the disappearance of vocals is caused by compression with the Bongiovi AGC (I hear these effects, too).

    There was (is?) a profile creator but only commercially available to companies as far as I know.

    Personally I sometimes applied small changes by hand to the profiles in the past. However previously profiles were just saved in a folder and now in a database, so it’s no longer possible. 🙁

    After succesful activation there’s a deactivate button. Use it before doing bigger changes to your system like reinstalling the OS or moving to another PC. When all is done reactivate DPS with your license key again.

    @Dan
    I guess adrian just confused the Virtual Reality profile with the Virtual Subwoofer technology.
    His actual problem is that when he opens the profile tab in DPS and then selects ‘make’ the shown list doesn’t fit completely on his screen so that he cannot select the last few profiles. And scrolling down the list doesn’t work, too.
    (No problem for me though because the list does fit on my screen completely, so no scrolling necessary here.)
