I created a ticket and included a crash report from 6-10-20 that I found in Console. It was under the Process Name “Bongiovi DPS”. I hope that will help.

That’s interesting. Not to bore anyone, but I have come a long way trying to improve the standard sound on 3 MacBook Pros starting in 2010. I started with SRS iWow for iTunes (which was software included with a ViewSonic external display), then switched to Audio Essentials, and after that was no longer being supported I found DPS which up to OS Catalina was excellent. I think it started out as an iTunes Plug-in. I don’t want to use this forum to knock DPS but I believe there is one other sound enhancer available for MacOS in case anyone has reached a dead end with DPS or wants to try a temporary alternative.

    OK, that’s too bad.
I am waiting for a response from DPS Support. With the uncertain times I am trying to be patient and not press Support for an answer. Of course, they may not have a solution yet. I tried reinstalling DPS from fresh installation media found at http://www.bongiovidps.com/download but it didn’t solve the problem.
Another community forum said: “…If it (DPS) makes use of core audio, there is a possibility that core audio crashes which would explain your loss of audio…” but I don’t know how to address that issue.

Have you tried “Resync audio buffers” from the icon in the menu bar? I just saw it and I will try it the next time I lose sound.

This is now happening to me also with macOS 10.15.5. I see that when I change System Preferences/Sound/Output from “DPSReflector” to “MacBook Pro Speakers” the loop ends but of course DPS is now off. Changing the Output Device also brings back the sound after I lose it completely.

Hi, I had the same problem with a MacBook Pro 2019 starting in mid April that affected Apple Music but I don’t reminder if it affected the Sound Effects (in System Preferences). My only temporary and frustrating solution was to restart the computer. I was given a long “Troubleshooting Procedure that may Fix Problems with macOS El Capitan or Later” in a community forum. I didn’t want to do all that so I tried some simple things like disonnecting an external hard drive and rebooting the sound controller but that didn’t help. At some point I used safe boot and then restarted and it it seems that safe boot may have corrected the problem. Since April 24 I can leave the computer for hours, leave it on overnight, awaken it from sleep, leave the sound paused with Apple Music’s pause button or using the keyboard’s touchpad play/pause key for extended periods of time and I still have sound. I don’t know what actually caused the problem in the first place but that is my non-techie experience and I hope it continues to work because I expect that from a MacBook Pro 2019.
