ParticipantThanks, for new beta release, Joey. Volume persistence, neat. Visualizer is the EQ histogram? I’m really liking the gui usability of the new EQ controls. At some point will you return readouts in numerical values to the histogram and Bass, Treble and Stereo controls? (Go. Release.)!
All best,
David

ParticipantGreat release!

- Finished implementation of Sparkle update mechanism.
- Toggling DPS on/off preserves user Volume Boost preference.
Both issues have been fixed for me. 🙂 I am very happy about this. One question though, does this mean that you will be testing new update mechanism in next release? Will it eventually be used for application updates or just as a notification center? Meaning, you will be redirected to a website to download and manually install the app?
One thing I do have to report is that I still have issue with login window freezing. When prompted to log in “Bongiovi DPS” process is not responding. I have to “kill it”/quit in Activity Monitor. I did click on “Always allow” when prompted by Keychain and waited for 15 minutes before quitting.
I do not know if these are by design/intended behaviour or bugs:
- Plug-in Behaviour (Ask Dialogue box) when plugging in headphones for the first time and presented with options I choose intended settings and check to use it automatically, main DPS window is opened as well after clicking ok.
- I believe this is what davidas3 meant, but cannot be sure. When you have DPS running and enabled going to System Preferences -> Sound -> Output and choosing different device for sound output will turn DPS off. For example, I have Internal speakers, DPSReflector and USB (DAC). Clicking on either/switching between (Internal speakers, DAC) and then selecting DPSReflector turns off DPS (no sound). But there is no need to uninstall/reinstall. Simply “Turning DPS On” from menu bar restores the sound. I believe this also happens with v1.
As for need for reboot. I tested this and there was no need for it under El Capitan. However, I did remove all files (preferences, profiles) before I installed beta and you might want to ask for more feedback from people who have/had version 1 installed.
Regards,
h.

ParticipantFORCED REBOOT UNNECESSARY
xaqmusic,
Hi. I forgot to mention that when IÂ installed the x.012 Beta upgrade yesterday, a forced reboot was not necessary. I first quit any app which obviously accesses system audio (FCP, iTunes and closed down an open Quick Look audio file that was open) before installing. After the installation which went without a hitch. The DPS icon was in the menu bar like it’s supposed to be so I re-opened up iTunes, FCPÂ and the Quick Look file which had been open. DPS Output Device opened to defaulted Built-in Output and Option/Sound Prefs menu’s Output Device showed checked DPSReflector. In iTunes, DPS toggled on and off as it should, all systems Go.
The only noticeable thing is an attenuation of gain along the entire curve. While the sound quality is excellent it seems that I can’t get the volume loud enough. In the previous version x.011, the clarity and volume were noticeably there. Even at half gain, the music was loud. Now, not so much… and this goes for headphones and the onboard 17″ unibody MacBook Pro speakers. Is this my imagination? Still, this is one awesome product.

Participantxaqmusic,
Your staff has found something about the crackles problem ?
January 21, 2016 at 9:52 am #63536xaqmusic
Keymaster3rick,
Before we released 2.0.0.12 Dave (our developer) and I went over the Volume Boost code. Â It is simply 0dB for off then +6dB for on. Â There is definitely nothing that is causing clipping from our side. Â From that last example you sent me I can see the clipping and you say the crackles are certainly loud enough to be distracting. Â We will continue to investigate this issue.
davidas3,
Did you try turning on Volume Boost in the SETTINGS tab? Â That should bring the level up to what you remember.

ParticipantMatter of fact, I just used the Volume Boost checkbox to significantly raise extremely low volume in an instructional YouTube somebody made for Python and it served its purpose. Truthfully, now that I’m listening, I think I had to clear out some earwax, because it sounds just fine, now. Go figure. Sorry for any confusion.

Participant
All, Has anyone else experienced issues on install? If so, did rebooting help? We don’t want to force reboot if we don’t have to but if installing the driver is not stable we will put that requirement back in.
Heya Joey!
I just installed the latest 2.0 beta after uninstalling the 1.07 version. To answer your question, starting the DPS 2.0 and (after making an account) trying to log in caused the app to freeze on my system (10.11). A reboot indeed fixed the problem and I am happy to report I am experiencing no other issues.
I am very impressed with this new release. Well done!

Participantxaqmusic,
I’ve found a speaker profile that I like too :
Annapolis DRC
On “Love” I hear no more distortion 🙂

KeymasterEveryone,
Version 2.0.0.14 is now available!
You will notice this version is not in Dropbox. Â Just go to the MESSAGES tab and click “Check for Updates”.
- This is a final release candidate 🙂
- Improved support for Voice Over Assistant.
- Added checkbox for turning the RTA (visualizer) off in SETTINGS tab.
- UI improvements
- Setup Helper improvements
- User is prompted to reboot at the end of the installation process.
- Even though some of you had success with installation without reboot, there were enough issues reported to put the requirement back in place.
- If you know your system does not require a reboot just force-quit the installer when installation completes.

ParticipantHey xaqmusic! .012 is improving with age. How can that be? 🙂
Today’s stupid question, re: the .014 Update – What Message Tab? Where do I have to navigate to to download the update?
All best,
David

ParticipantDavid,
This update is delivered via internal (Sparkle) updater that was finished in previous build.
Right click on Bongiovi DPS Menu Bar icon -> Bongiovi DPS Preferences -> Messages (Tab) -> At the bottom under Software Updates -> Check for updates.
xaqmusic,
The only thing that I have to report is that Sparkle updater window is always on top and partially covers installer window and covers reboot prompt, for example.
The updater works. I updated without problems. However, under latest developer/beta build of 10.11.4 I sometimes get glitches when streaming videos/listening to music via Spotify. It began happening under previous build as well. However, I realise I am using beta build of OS X. Apple might have done some updates between 10.11.2 to 10.11.4 Beta.
Good work so far.

Keymasterhrvoje31,
Of course we are concentrating on the current release builds of OSX but I appreciate your feedback on the beta versions. Â Apple always seems to want to monkey with Core Audio and not document their changes. Â This was a major issue for us in Mavericks and never got resolved until Yosemite was released.
That being said we will run some more tests with Spotify and Netflix to be sure.
Regarding Sparkle; we will close the update window after the new installer is launched.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi xaqmusic,
Thanks for kind reply and ultra fast feedback. Very much appreciated!
Please do note that unless you get more reports on video playback/Spotify issues do not consider it as DPS’s fault. It was a quick report without “hours of testing”. Would not want you to waste time on tracking something that is possibly not there. I am aware that running beta OS X and beta application is not the way to report issues so it was a small remark. For example, I had major Bluetooth issues with first beta, but not with beta 2…so….
Spotify issue was weird. Apparently they did have service issues today (https://twitter.com/SpotifyStatus). So my “cutoffs” could have been and probably are related to the service (not just today).
If you can, please do try to watch Netflix or some kind of flash video for some time and see if you get glitches (audio buffer re-sync issues) on 10.11.3 or 10.11.4 as I did loose audio and got audio distortion before app resynced itself automatically. Strangely, it happened soon after I upgraded the app today. It might have to do with Chrome/Flash plugin itself and both have been upgraded several times lately. Have a programmer see if there were changes to Core Audio at all between 10.11.2 and 10.11.3/4. The mere thought of Mavericks scares me. It broke so many audio apps.
Thanks for/keep up the good work. I am looking forward to final release.

ParticipantThanks hrvoje31,
In the event, it wasn’t necessary. Lo and behold, yesterday, after posting my question, when I left the forum to access DPS Prefs, before I could even click on the Messages tab, the standard update window appeared automatically. Didn’t even have to ask! I also didn’t think twice but followed the automatic download/install routine with no need for a Restart to activate. Working just fine.

ParticipantHey Joey,
.014 working fine. One thing of note regarding the Stereo Controls, for what it’s worth: in the Home tab, when checking out vs. .014, the Stereo Controls radio button retained its “On” setting from my previous version (.012). Evidently, something re-initialized because there was only one sphere in the image. When I toggled Off and then On, the double, stereo sphere reappeared. Maybe no big deal, but hope this helps.
I guess because there’s a reference to a “Pro” version on the Support page, the globes in the image are not adjustable and will only be so in the pro version. When will that be available. Sign me up!
All best,
David
