The mainframe I mentioned was a GE 225. A Google search actually turns up a lot of interesting stuff on it. A few years later, Honeywell bought out the GE mainframe business and I worked on those for a while. After a few years with the Honeywell, I got into the IBM 1401 then the early 360’s and was an assembler programmer for a while. I’ve been a tech geek all my adult life and always enjoyed my early days getting started. I have an aptitude for that stuff, which helps a lot. When I first got into it, I was in a competition with about 30 other people at a large bank and they were looking for 1 person to “get into computers”. We wrote an aptitude test and I ended up being selected.
